Every e-commerce team has heard that faster pages sell more. Fewer have looked at where their own store actually loses the time, and the answer is rarely where they expect.
The usual culprits are third-party scripts, not your code. Review widgets, chat tools, trackers, and A/B testing tags pile up over the years, each one 'only' adding a fraction of a second. Audit them quarterly. Every script should have an owner who can say what it earns.
Images are next. Product photography uploaded at full resolution and resized by the browser is still common. Modern formats, responsive sizes, and lazy loading below the fold are routine fixes with outsized results on mobile, where most shopping now happens.
Checkout deserves its own attention. Every extra field, forced account creation, or surprise shipping cost at the last step is an abandoned cart. Guest checkout, address autocomplete, and wallet payments are table stakes.
Then measure on real devices. Lab scores on a fast laptop flatter everyone. Field data from actual shoppers, on mid-range phones and patchy connections, tells you what your customers experience. Track it per template — home, category, product, cart — because a fast homepage does not help a slow product page.
Treat performance as a feature with a budget, not a project with an end date. Set limits per page, check them on every release, and stores stay fast. If you want a second pair of eyes, we'll review your storefront and give you a prioritized list.
